Janelle Monaeのアルバムデビュー作。フリッツ・ラングのMetropolisという1927年の映画にインスパイアされた前作のEPを発展させたものだ。ということもあり、イマジネイティブでコンセプチャルな大作でもある。Monaeを含む3人のProducer TeamでほとんどのTrackをProduceしているのだが、作風はかなりユニークで比較対象がみつからない。Interludeのクラシックと映画調な雰囲気を除いても、バラエティに富んでおり、Afro, Pop, Asian, スローロック, フォークをも行き来して、またoutkastっぽい曲もあったりと相当の振れ幅だ。Vocal StyleはあえていうならErykah Baduに近い感じである。
